BMW E38 / E39 – Stuck Door Lock / Latch. And I cannot figure out how to get it open. This was an annoyance until the weekend when the driver’s side door started to do the same thing so now it is a major issue! You really have no other options, as you must get the door open in order to replace the latch assemblies. I would suggest.

We have a 2004 BMW X5, and the driver's door inside opening mechanism has broken twice; once under warranty and once after. The repair costs nearly $800, so many will not pay to have it fixed. The problem endangers the driver if in an accident and needing to exit the vehicle, and it is caused by the routing of the cable through a plastic part.

Latch jam on driver door of BMW X5 year 2004. The door will not always shut when it is very cold. It will take 30 to 45 minutes after the car warms up to shut. BMW of North America does not claim this is faulty for a recall. They have received other complaints with this issue on older model X5's. since alot of the X5's are not outside as much as mine (I.e. overnight) you will not have a huge amount of complaints. The complaints will be with the ones that are in the cold weather regions of american and are outside for extended period of times and very frequently outside.. this issue is a safety hazard that BMW of North America should recall and fix. - Mission Hills, KS, USA

My 2001 BMW X5 door locks get stuck when it is very cold, usually below 15 degrees Fahrenheit. The key remote does not work & if I can get the key to manually unlock the door, and get into the vehicle, when I go to shut the door the latch is stuck 'open' and will not close, therefore making the car un-drivable because the door will not latch close. I have discussed this w/ BMW on 8/16/05 & they reviewed it. A BMW district representative said that they have noticed that the current 'latching/locking' system can allow moisture to get into the locks & make them unusable. They offered to replace all 4 locking mechanisms but I would have to pay 1/2 part & labor, cost to me $450 out of pocket. This sounds like an engineering problem that BMW should recall. I would like to have this investigated. - New Albany, OH, USA

Event: Cold weather below 15 degrees F. failure: Door locks freeze so that doors can not be closed or passengers can not get out. Door locks were replaced by the dealer when the car was under warranty. That does not fix the problem. It is a design flaw. The car is now out of warranty. - Elk Grove Village, IL, USA
